Ritchey WCS Zeta wheels
This year we are using the new Ritchey WCS Zeta wheels for training and some races. When the races are in wet, rainy conditions and have many downhills, we go for the convenience and superior braking of aluminum wheels, instead of carbon rims.
Last Sunday we raced at Wuling, Hehuan Shan. In wet conditions and having a steep 40km downhill on the way back home after race, the Zetas were the best option. Coupled with Schwalbe Durano tires is a great combination for training and racing.
Here some of the details of this great wheelset;
- Vanadium alloy rim material; lighter and stronger w/ excellent brake performance
- Dogbone spoke hole drilling for better torsional spoke angle
- 24mm rim profile provides increased vertical compliance
- Combination Sapim CX and CX-Ray spokes
- German made hubshell bearings for accuracy and longevity
At around 1550 grams for the pair, these wheelset is light, but just as important, is stiff when sprinting while quite forgiving over rough roads. The box section of the rims makes them very responsive when turning, something that we tested in the hundreds of turns going down Wuling towards Puli. A good wheelset like this makes riding so much more fun. Also to mention, in the 4 months we have been using these wheels, none of us required any truing, the wheels are rolling straight as the first day.
Here we are at the top of Wuling with our Cinellis, ready to go downhill after the race, knowing that braking and steering quality is great, and we can be safe and enjoy the ride!
